I guess this is kind of car related.

When you go to test drive a new car why do they ask for a copy of your drivers license? Ive heard that they can run a credit check on you while out on the test drive. Is this true? I was checking out a Passat today but the salesman wouldnt let me test drive it with out giving him a copy of my id. I wasnt comfortable with that and offered to just show it to him and he could come along with me. But he wouldnt do it so I passed on the test drive. When I bought my GTI I dont remember having to do this but I know other dealers have requested it.

well for a credit check thats somthing you have to approve of them doing so seeing as how every credit check goes on your credit report itself. but who knows what they do to people with out them knowing.best thing to do is take an id with no social security number on it so they can not run a check like that because thats all they need to run a credit check.

They want your ID so you will think twice before screwing a .45 in the salesmans ear and tell him to get the hell out of the car.

I work with credit bureaus all the time. No SSN number no credit check. Plus they have to provide the credit bureau with a federally mandated form with your signature and SSN #.

Give them your ID and then go scare the shit out of the saleman. I did it in a new Lightning a while ago. You should have seen the fokker holding onto the oh shit handle !

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure they werent going to try something shady while I was out.

Fordman as for scaring a salesman. I did that a few years back when I test drove a used Corrado VR6. He was turning white in the back seat.
