Default Someone tell me a bit about E85

The gas stations on base near me just got E85. I heard it has a higher octane rating than 93. Anyone using it? Is this the new poor man's race gas?

Yeah but whats this shit about not having any aluminum components in your fuel system? Isn't E85 supposed to be for flex fuel cars with the upgraded fuel tanks? I just wanted to see if anyone was running it with any neg or positive effects.

I can't imagine there being THAT much of a difference, as what we run at your average Florida pump is basically E10.

There is a HUGE difference between E85 and E10. We've been using and tuning E85 for a while now. We're starting to use and tune E100 also. If you use the E85 be aware you're going to have to do a lot more tuning both with fuel and ignition but mainly fuel. Ontop of that it requires on average 25% - 35% more fuel ontop of 93 octane fuel values. We've made some very good power on both E85 and E100

koenigsegg ccxr made like 900hp on 91, and 1100 on e85. something about e85 having a cooling effect on the engine?

I dont know much about the performance side, other than the fact it takes more ethanol than gasoline to produce XX amount of power, but ethanol is corrosive to normal gasoline fuel systems. To run it the system has to be made for ethanol.
