1jz is a 2.5l, 2jz is a 3.0.
They're very similar engines. The 1jz runs true twins(ct12a's), whereas the 2jz is sequential.
They both have the same 86mm bore, but the 2jz has a longer stroke. The shorter stroke of the 1jz makes it tailored for high-rpm use and really shines in a lighter car.
The fact that it's highly oversquare (Larger bore than stroke) minimizes bottom-end fatigue at high-rpm.

Matt: Due to a smaller combustion chamber, the 1jz head raises the compression I believe ~.3-4
Mostly people do a 1jz head on a 2jz block becuase they started out with a 1jz swap because it's much cheaper. When they want the extra displacement (not important, if you ask me) or in the event of an unlikely failure, they swap in the 2jz block and retain the 1jz head.
In stock form the 1jz head flows slightly better, for reasons I can't remember.

 

well i wasnt pointing him out to be an ass or nothing negative, just to clear up the fact that they mistook what i was saying...wen you made the post you said throw it in the s2k upgrade the rear end and crank the boost, so to me that sounds like a stock motor and turbos going 30lbs...not a wise thing you know....but like stated ive never owned a supra of that mark, just a mark3 with a 7m so they are really different beast. i lurk supraforums and research and i know pretty well that those motors can handle a beating, but that wasnt what we were talking about you know....if that had been stated i would have been right along with you on that point, as well as pointing out for it to last alot longer, build the bitch...this is in no way to disrespect kirk or his wife, i respect them both for their knowledge and dedication to the supra world ( and now the 350z world too)
