How to fix cracked trans casing?
if you weld it, you have to take it off anyways, so just get a new one of that.
JB weld works well on most things, I've used it on my Radiators that have gotten holes in them. Idk if i'd use it as a permanent fix, but it should work for a little while, and use thicker oil like Garret said.

The problem with welding it is its Cast.. so the metal has to be heated before you weld it.
The problem with Jb weld is it has to be oil free for 24hrs while it dries. even if you drain the tranny and put the jb weld on there will still be ATF in there to seep out.
The problem with getting a new tranny or new case is well Thats the right way to do it.. and as we all know this is TR. not many people do shit right.

why cant i heat it and weld it?
the trans fluid has been drained, and the fluid has all dripped out and been empty for days now, does this mean that i can jb weld it?

you can try Jb weld its worth a shot and may work for a while.
you could heat it and weld it but its not good to heat the internals as hot as the case would need to be to weld it.
If it were me i would Grind a small grove into the Crack. Then put jb weld on it putting some pressure on the jb weld to get as much air out as possible.

Best way to fix it? List it in the cars for sale section of this site as a cream puff, that's clean and runs perfect. Thats what everybody else does when they have an issue they can't afford to fix.

The ones who say JB is a shortcut are ignoring one simple fact: The cost to replace the transmission will most likely exceed the value of the car. Honestly, you will be able to JB Weld it now and it will be fine.
How did it get cracked? Impact?

You don't have to preheat it to weld it. You can use a strong wire brush on a wheel and just try to remove a layer and get to fresh aluminum. Without the preheat the weld won't look great, but if the guy welding has any skills it won't leak. I've welded a cracked tranny while it was in a car before, no issues. It does depend on the size and location of the crack though. In all honesty if it was my car I'd try some kind of epoxy first though.
