Default Replaced my cat got 3+ mpg

My daily driver is a bone stock 2000 Civic coupe 1.6 auto.I have been getting about 300 miles a tank using 10 gallons with the gas light on once in a while.I replaced my cat with a test pipe i got thru a trade years ago and got the following results:

330 miles to the tank and no gas light and when refilled took the same amount as usually(9-10 gallons) 87 octane.
Random check engine light(maybe once every two days and i simply reset it with my Obd2 scantool)The code is catalyst related due to the obvious.

My car is full power everything and even extra weight in the trunk(music and tools).Maybe monthly i check my tire pressure and my driving habits havent changed a bit and i always have my A/C on.

So in conclusion i thought cats were supposed to help the environment? There goes that theory out the window with my car.

DISCLAIMER:These results happened with my car it may not apply to yours.

You can wire in some resistors to fool the ECU that the cat is working. I did it on my CL and it works great... no check engine light. Looking for tutorial...

I'm sure you know that cats do more than just make your exhaust quieter right?

That said, none of my cars have had cats since ... i dunno, 12 years ago?

cats do burn off some of the harmful stuff in the exhaust... but not all of it...
I'm wondering what the difference would be between 300 miles to the tank with a cat, and 330 without. Sounds like it would be a wash... or at least pretty close..

lol, catalytic converters aren't meant to be better for the environment in the sense that they gave you more MPG, they help by heating up the exhaust gas even further to help burn the extra carbon crap down to even less harmful gas.

In my personal opinion, it doesn't really even help though and is fairly useless.

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.

you can wire in resistors or use spark plug anti-foulers to get rid of the check engine light.
