Ford is right behind Toyota in quality now, and most of there cars are getting pretty good MPG's (28-35) other than the mustang, F series etc (which still isent bad either, my friend has a 08 f150 and gets 19mpg in the city)

Well Toyota quality has also dropped, now that they are going apeshit making things.

The quality started failing right about....when we stopped getting them from Japan I'd say. Old vids on the assembly line seem to show more attention paid on each car from Japanese built cars. I am biased though, so this may not be the case; just something I feel to be true. Perhaps its just Toyotas specifically.

When the VIN doesnt start with JT1 or JT2, then you have something that may not be as quality as the name suggests

I checked out the Volvo C30 at the dealership while getting some parts for our S60 and I got to admit, I was quite impressed!

um, you might want to refresh your knowledge in shapes because if you don't know, ford is called the blue OVAL. It's not a circle. back to Kindergarten for you sir.

ive had my focus for about 6 years now, its been wrecked twice(once by me) and ive never had any major problems with it, only the normal maintenance to be done and a valve cover gasket, motor mount, tensioner pulley.. that's it! im almost at 115k and everything on/in the motor is still from the factory and I beat the snot out of it on a daily basis(4-5k shifting out of 7k). Ford's quality is moving up.

oh and i would be all over that RS like a fat kid on a cupcake.

Welcome to TR. With that much money you could buy half a page of the For Sale forum threads.

How often do you make a perfect circle, much less when you circle something longer than it is tall?
As far as quality, I dont think Fords are so much unreliable as they dont use quality parts, cheap out whenever they can, and cut corners as much as possible.

Especially on a Focus. It almost hurts to drive one

Acually the volvo C-30 is a Focus, not vice versa. As it was a Focus in Europe before it ever became a volvo, same goes for the Mazda 3. They all share the same platform. However, yes the engine is Volvo's.

As far as the old Focus sucking, thats BS. Its not as good as the more modern euro focus, but its still a solid, well handling and well performing car. Seats 4 adults, lots of room, nice ride, handles well, 2.0 ltr ZETC is solid as is the 2.3. The Focus and the SVT Focus is as venerable a platform as any civic, at least up until the latest civic. Infact, probably in many cases a Focus is even better than the civic. When the Focus debuted in europe in 98, it was light years ahead of its competitors in chassis structure rigidity and suspension geometry. So its only now that its age is catching up to itself.

80K miles, daily driven, cross country road trips, autocrossed for years, flogged at track days, and drag strips. Yep all still as good as new (actually better w/ some bolt on mods), gets 30mpg, no squeeks or rattles, fit and finish still good, rides great, interior in perfect condition, paint is shiney and new, at least as perfect as a 6 year old car can get.
Weird. I suppose somehow my Ford must have been a freak accident of good design and excellent build quality.
