chances are its not the start if its turning over. Because its so old it could be your fuel pump, or injectors getting a little clogged...or is it a carb setup?

In my limited experience when its turning over but not starting its usually a little lack of fuel. If it is a carb next time this happens, pour a little fuel into the carb and if it starts RIGHT away, then your having a lack of fuel problem.

Pretty sure it uses the same Bosch motronic that porsche uses - I recommend getting the service manual and following the trouble shooting guide. a no start can be anything from a simple relay (and on my car there is a $30 DME relay under the driver's seat that goes bad - carry a spare)to distributor to coil.

If the car will turn over it probably is not the starter.

My old car used to do that. When it was hot from just driving it it wouldn't start if I shut it off and tried to restart it but after letting it cool off for afew hours it would crank right up. It's your starter dude, change it and you should be fine. That's what I did.
