Question about driving a car you just purchased in FL
Did you have proof of insurance when this happened?
Do you think they will care if it's out of state insurance, as long as it's insured?
Thanks TR. This is great info!
yep, the dmv told me you have 30 days from the purchase date. I just bought a vehicle from my brother and he wasn't going to let me take it until I got it registered in my name with a tag. I called the DMV and the FHP, they both said to have a bill of sale and proof of insurance

+1 to the bill of sale thing. I bought my first car up in Tampa and drove it all the way back to Venice with no tag and a fart can and didnt even get pulled over, but we had the Bill O Sale so we'd be alright.

At least that's what I thought. Am I wrong?
from my understanding, having insurance makes you an insured motorist, so if you get in an accident you're insured. additionally, i believe in your insurance policy there are provisions for a new car purchase

i got pulled over in plant city after driving to daytona to pick up my civic. I explained to the cop i just bought the car, showed him the title, gave him my license, he ran the title and my name, and after all came up clear, he said ok, just get it registered as soon as you can...and let me go. Just dont EVER, EVER drive with an unassigned tag, you can and probably will get arrested for that...
