So, I got yet another speeding ticket today, and this coming after planning on purchasing a radar detector once my tax refund shows up in my bank account for the past couple months. Though, I'm not sure of which one to get. I'm figuring I'll just ante-up and buy a nice one like the Valentine V1 or the Escort Passport 8500 or 9500, but I'm not sure as to which is the best one. From what I can gather so far, the Valentine seems to be the more popular one with it's arrows, etc., whereas the Escort seems to be the better performer. But again, this is just from a rough, general overview of what I've seen. Can anybody add some insight as to which one is the better investment?

 

Valentine 1 hands down. I love mine, and would never switch over to a 8500. My friends have had them and it just does not compare to the V1, in my own personal opinion. Sure it's expensive but it will pay it self off after 1 less ticket.

Now get ready for 20 people to come in here saying to go to Walmart and get a $40 Cobra because all radars are the same.

I searched and read the other threads that were posted in the past. I just wanted some updated opinions as I've yet to hear much about the Escort 9500.

Oh yeah, this post question is definitely about upper-level radar detectors, not the cheaper ones found at Walmart, etc. I've been planning on buying a nice one for some time now, and since I don't need to buy anything or pay for anything (other than my new speeding ticket, haha) with my tax return, I figured might-as-well.

 

V1 if you want the best, for $150-200, I love Bel, been using them over a decade now

 

^^ I had a $100 cobra detector a while back. It worked. It wasn't 100% effective like those $500 ones, but it saved my ass a few times. I sold it to someone on here, and he's real happy with it.

If I bought one now though, I'd go all out and get the top of the line. Might as well do it right the 1st time.
