yes, they both have laser DETECTORS (the keyword). In other words, the detector is letting u know that u just got clocked with a laser. And the benefit of laser is that it is a one quick aim at ur car & shoot to clock ur speed, whereas regular KA radar is always on and I think its a little wider with it's readings (correct me if im wrong).

 

You get what you pay for, and my radar detector has saved my ass from huge tickets. It has really paid for itself at least twice.

I have an Escort Passport SR7 plus shifters. It is a radar detector with laser shifters. It always gives me more than enough time to slow down. Here is how it usually goes. I am speeding down some Florida interstate, my radar goes off, I slow down, I look for the cop, I start to wonder where he is as I drive the speed limit, I see him just down the road or around a bend or just sneakily hiding somewhere, and then I thank my radar detector.

The best is when the laser shifter goes off. I drive by a speed trap, the radar detector goes off that it is shifting the laser signal, I pass the hiding cop as he shakes his gun as if it were broken. I have never been pulled ever since I had it.

I would recommend a stealth install. The SR7 gives you one radar sensor, two laser sensors for the front, and one rear mounted laser sensor. It is easy to install in your car (about the same difficulty as a car amp), and you never have to worry about the cops finding it because nothing is visible.
