The environmental argument is the wrong way to promote "green" cars.

Reducing the value of the Middle East' only export would be a much more effective tack.

My sisters mitsubishi mirage consistently gets 35-40 MPG. Personally, I'd spend a few grand on one of them before I bought a 20+k hybrid. I'll believe that car ^^is coming out when I see it also.

nemesis.

The Prius costs an average of $3.25 per mile driven over a lifetime of 100,000 miles - the expected lifespan of the Hybrid. The Hummer, on the other hand, costs a more fiscal $1.95 per mile to put on the road over an expected lifetime.

Those are a few main points.. Read the whole article.
I suggest the same for you

Prius Versus HUMMER: Exploding the Myth - The Car Connection

But Toyota also says that the study uses an unrealistically low estimated lifetime for hybrids, and that there's no data to support its assumptions in this. For instance, according to the study the average Prius is expected to go 109,000 miles over its lifetime, while a Hummer H1 would go 379,000 miles. CNW says about hybrids: "…these are generally secondary vehicles in a household OR they are driven in restricted or short range environments such as college campuses or retirement neighborhoods."

I was doing the numbers in his article and I KNEW they didn't make sense. Good find.

Short distance trips & infrequent drives are the times that hybrids shine brightest... but fuck if you will catch me rolling on the interstate at 55-60mph to get that 60mpg (Prius drops to ~35mpg if you cruise at over 65mph)

I'll buy one when they stop looking like ASS!!!

Also, once they start to have over 200 HP.

I would buy a Tesla right now!

I rented a prius and drove it to jacksonville to pick up my new car. I got pretty good gas mileage on the highway. I think it was reading around 45mpg and I was cruising at 75-90mph.

I would never buy one, because their brakes are horrible. I had the back end of the car swerving when I tried to stop for an accident that occurred up ahead. It was pretty scarry. I don't care what kind of gas mileage a car gets if I don't feel like I could safely stop or slow down.
