how much MPG would a hybrid need to have for you to buy one?
When you factor in the environmental damage done by research and development for these hybrid cars, and the resource-intensive manufacturing process involved, green cars aren't so green. A 1971 Nova is probably more earth-friendly than a Prius.

Hybrids are a gimmick to bilk money out of gullible soft headed Greenies. There is no benefit to the atmosphere. Any savings on gas is wiped out by the price of the car. And they are the ugliest POS since the Aztec. If you want to piss money down a hole in the name of conservation and saving the planet, just write a check for the price of a hybrid and send it off to Greenpeace or the Sierra Club. That won't do any good either but at least you can get your feel-good endorphins going without being subjected to driving a hybrid out in public where people can see you.

i worked at a house last week, and the dude was driving a brand new camry, hybrid, with leather and all, was the first one i seen.
id buy it for the mpg, not for the environment, but those things cost too much money, so ill stick to the gas guzzlers and diesels!

There was a study done that proved that the process of manufacturing any hybrid vehicle has a much larger effect on the environment than that of producing a normal vehicle. They said that the "damage" from building a hybrid outweighed what the hybrid would do to "save" the environment over time.
If you search google you can probably find the article. It was probably a year or so ago.

how does this make any sence at all? No matter what, during the life of the car it will put out less polution or w/e then nonhybrid cars and THAT is the comparison. Of course its gunna do some damage building but how would it do more than any other vehicle? The fact is, we are gunna build cars. would you want one to do less damage while you drive it?
BTW, i would drive a hybrid depening on comfort, price, and size before gas milage to a point. IE if i had a 5 person family, the new hybrid suburban with about 20mpg sounds ok.
My main deal is price. If I could afford a car that gets 35-40 mpg like a VW TDI Id go buy one right now.

Get reading buddy..
The Recorder
Building a Toyota Prius causes more environmental damage than a Hummer that is on the road for three times longer than a Prius.
When you pool together all the combined energy it takes to drive and build a Toyota Prius, the flagship car of energy fanatics, it takes almost 50 percent more energy than a Hummer - the Prius’s arch
nemesis.
The Prius costs an average of $3.25 per mile driven over a lifetime of 100,000 miles - the expected lifespan of the Hybrid. The Hummer, on the other hand, costs a more fiscal $1.95 per mile to put on the road over an expected lifetime.
Those are a few main points.. Read the whole article.
