How the hell!....
Is the FIA going to put a 10 year ban on engine development?
Motor Authority » FIA ratifies ten-year F1 engine freeze
F1 can only use 2007 spec engines for the next ten years....
(complete bullshit)
The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council on Friday ratified an immediate ten-year freeze on formula one engine development. Between next year and 2017, each team may only use a 2007-spec engine design that is to be “delivered (to the FIA) no later than 31 March 2008″, a statement announced.
At the third annual Motor Sport Business Forum in Monaco this week, FIA president Max Mosley explained the decision to freeze engines in formula one. “There is no need to develop an F1 engine any further. The engine runs at 19,000 rpm which is far faster than any comparable engine. It sounds good, it’s reliable and amazingly the six partially frozen engines of the current manufacturers are really evenly matched,” the Briton said in his keynote speech.
The FIA on Friday also announced that teams may only use one wind tunnel in 2008 and beyond, and banned 24 hour use of such facilities. The number of team personnel at races is also to be capped. (GMM)

They to limit the expansion of a sport that has been around for over 60 years. and europeans are assholes
I could see a 2 year ban being feasable. But not 10 years. Thats idiotic. I can see how they want designers to focus more on the chassis development. But thats limited now thanks to the amount of wind tunnel testing only being alowed once per year. I dont think the teams have evenly matched motors either. Their whole reasoning is crooked

Right now most teams spend in upwards of 50 million on engine development alone. I dont think they are going to keep spending that kind of money if they cant use what they are building.

I'm sure even though the specs stopped at 2007, they will still make much more impovements within the current guidelines than to move on to brand new stuff.
I know it seems the cars are already on the limits, but these are some of the smartest guys in the world we're dealing with.
Also, it's still good. The same teams won't have a huge advantage over and over again... well maybe

they will also be allowed to use a wind tunnel more than once a year, but they are severly restricting the amount of time they can spend in it. I believe it will be something like 8 hours a day five days a week instead of 24/7 (with some teams having two tunnels). they are also going to limit the amount of cfd work they can do too to keep the teams from buying even more super computers.
the teams with the most money will always have the advantage, well generally. toyota is definatly the exception to this, the more money they throw at their car the slower it goes. renault has done very well on a much smaller budget the most of the front runners, it will be interesting to see what happens now that alanso is back.
