I liked the idea of the small displacement turbo hybrid engines running on biofuel. Something new and something relevant to progression in the state of the art that might actually benefit normal people driving normal cars. Without technical innovation F1 is just NASCAR, only with whiny European-style soap opera drama instead of good-ole-boy Redneck-style soap opera drama.
