Yup. Clear coat it then wet sand with a high grit (2000?) then rubbing compound to finish it.

As a clarification, the articles in the archives suggest painting the inside,
(it might actually *be* illegal to have paint on the outside)

Clear lenses and bright bulbs seem like good ideas also,
for reasons stated.

where can i get the vht stuff in tampa area? does advance have it? what about autozone?

 

yeah autozone has it. don't freak out when you spray it on and it looks dull and shitty. it takes some work

 

advance didnt have it, so i just got some black paint. I was told as long as you dont do a thick layer it will be translucent as well. This is for my sidemarkers so i didnt care all that much, just wanted it to be nice and glossy, came out pretty good and light still shines through. Bought black engine enamel and clear engine enamel. Ill post pics later

 

This is true, but if you tint lightly like I've done they shouldn't give you a problem (These tailights never gave me trouble when I lived in CT, RI, and now Tampa).

Here is another picture to illustrate my point. Also, I've heard stories that if someone rear ends you, they could claim that they didn't see your tailights with the tint on. Not sure if this is true, but I'm sure it is easier for a lawyer to get his way with super dark tint versus a lighter tint.
