In addition, any emissions testing would have to be approved by the legislature and signed by the Governor.

However, OBD3 is scary, Have You Heard About OBD III?

might be a repost, but still something that we ought to know...
altough, it doesn't look like its gonna effect too many people... most of us are either odb1 or older,
and if we're ob2, then we've got hollow cats...
The EGR and what not is the stuff that I'm "worried" about...
the cat visual, no problem... but the egr valve and what not... might prove to be a problem...

yeah that shit kinda tweaks with my brain a little bit...
thats all we would need, cops with the ability to see when our cars are throwing codes. then, pull us over and give us a ticket... probably several cuz once you know there is a "problem" they are gonna check everything...
not to mention the whole monitoring a relatively private thing...

if they want better emissions, get the really old clunker cars off the roads... you know the onces that smoke like hell as they fall apart down the road...
then from there, make it an option to get tested. you can go get tested, or you can pay "X" dollars a year.
once you get tested, you'll get put into different tax catagories. some cars are gonna be alot "nicer" to the envirnment, give them a huge tax break. those that are in the middle, an average tax break. and those that are on the bottom (but still passed) like 5 bucks...
and then the ones that fail, can either fix their crap or pay the annual fee....
they would just have to make the annual fee high enough that your average person wouldn't want to pay it... and they would have to make the tax beraks big enough to make it worth it to everyone...

It is going to affect no one. That thing was posted even before Crist became governor, even before last election. As I mentioned, anything like this would have to go through the legislature first (not via executive order) as such program would have to have a source of funding. Moreover, no state official would go around passing these things from shop to shop...that also requires funding.

From what I have seen, most issues have been gutted precats and one main cat...in that case problem would be HCs (hydrocarbons, a.k.a. unburned gas).

HCs are problemo numero uno when it comes to not passing.

That garbage about how Florida never tested NOX and that was where the problem was is also BS. Most of that was coming from buses and diesel rigs, not cars.

That OBD3 thing is scary ain't it?

I also agree with you, pull the older clunkers off. They should go after industrial pollution, that has really been lacking in terms of enforcement.

they should make all the multi-colored 240's have a dori dori demolition derby and I'm sure when it was all over florida emissions would be halved

i kinda agree and I'm a 240 guy.
the part that I don't agree with is that it isn't just the 240s, its all of them, the 240s, the civics, the mustangs, camaros, red neck trucks, you know, all of the dumb kids that never got a tune and are still smoking... or running rich because it makes them faster and this that and the other... that crap needs to get under control... or they should have to pay extra to get away with it...

They really don't at all (unless you are an RX7 and catless) but a lot of environmentalists mistakenly point to NOX and cars, and it is a myth, just pure hot air.
