AEM digital UEGO sensor
I am not the most fluent person when it comes to carb apps. (and I realize your statement has a note of sarcasm/humor to it). But even a carb motor has an A/F that can be measured. The only difference is that the FI computer thingamajigs adjust the A/F with a few strokes on a keyboard. Where as the carb takes a screw driver and alot of "close enough for government work". I'm guessing maybe the dinosaurs (and by that I mean anybody that was born before cars came with FI standard) are driving the carb'd v8's that can handle running lean until the next spark plug change, as opposed to a motor that is only slightly larger than that of a wave runner.

Well, don't doubt that a 900 dollar carbeurator professionally built by CSU, one adjusted (with a screwdriver) will run pretty goddamn well. People usually tune them once in summer and once in winter down here and they run perfect in between. Between how good these guys are at tuning them, and the mechanical doo-dads in there to meter itself, they run about right. You just can't generate all the fancy reports and interface with computers to change up your stuff on a whim. Its not so bad, especially when it comes time to repair something, or time to pay for the fuel system.

No doubt the electrical gremlins are fewer and further between on a carb motor. It's the mechanical doo-dads inside the carb that I haven't delt with to know how it works and how accurate it is. That's not to say I haven't worked with carbs, but only enough to know that I don't know everything about them. I know just enough to know there is less mechanical skill required to tune a FI motor....but more technilogical know how.....if that makes any sense.
I'm getting a Uego soon! they really are great for engine monitoring.
