Default Carbon Fiber

i was just thinking up ideas...projects ( very expensive ones...but arent they all?) and came across the idea of intercooler pipes made of carbon fiber...i know very expensive and prbably not worth the gains if any...i personally love carbon fiber when done nicely...depending on the engine bay it would look hot...how about performance any advantage over current intercooler piping? just a silly idea...but if you have any good info or input please share...no flaming or killing of thread...just discuss carbon fiber and its uses in the automotive world.

sorry for the long read

Well, its not durable enough and I don't trust it to stand up to the heat. Plus itd be expensive as fuck and really annoying to mold.

Ahh, why is that? Is carbon fiber super strong? As far as I know its less durable than a peice of metal tubing? In fact, something interesting I read is that they have to coat it with nanocrystaline materials oftentimes, because its prone to cracks and impact damage. We're not talking about a bicycle helmet ya know. I'll take good ol' metal tubing any day.

And there are several kinds of carbon fibers. Some have unbelievably high heat limits, some are pretty damn low. Some exhibit 'softening' at temperatures barely into 300 degrees, others could plate a space shuttle, of course.

thank you... i really do appreciate it, thats how threads should go...not bashing and useless chatter.

what engine or drivetrain components have you guys thought offthat arent out there that could benefit from carbon fiber?
