+1 for agent93. Racing Porsches use carbon fiber on some of their duct
work, 'cuz it's easier to form than aluminum, and lighter.........but they have more to spend than most people on TR.-Bob

But by gosh, if YOU like it, Go for it!

I cant see it being used inside an engine bay, if it was a show car, it'd just be one more pain in the ass to keep clean from all the grime and shit thats usually brewing in there.

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.

good responses...

to clear things up im not planning on doing this to a car...i dont have those kind of funds...but if i did i probably would just because.

i really think carbon fiber looks good when done right...but if there is no PERFORMANCE gains in it i wouldnt bother...

generally there really aren't any performance gains in 99% of the crap i see put on cars. All it is, is just like when people put shiny rims/wheels on their cars. Its not going to make it any faster, and if anything hurts performance.

^^^true. carbon fiber is beautiful when its done with taste though, and working with it builds that love even more. carbon fiber can be a lot easier to repair than any aluminum. for instance, if you had a carbon lip, you can clean up rock chips with a little resin. or you can fill spots with chopped fiber. surfers have been doing this for years to combat dings in their boards.

however, if you had an aluminum front lip (nascar for example) and dent it or get a small gash, its difficult to either hammer out, splice in new metal, or what have you. you cant really splice a new piece in because that would add weight (if thats a important factor in your race car) and hammering out dents leaves some aerodynamic perfection to be desired. you cant get it perfect. its also not cost effective to replace metal parts all the time. however, you can teach any monkey to apply resin and sand.

^ word ... i would think carbon fiber would be pretty durable i remember seeing some show in discovery channel and they know it all but any ways the z06's used for lemans had cf disk brakes they said it was better because reduced the chance of warping the disc's

thats new to me, carbon fiber rotors? cool...any truth to this? as far as them not warping?

brakes get crazy hot so how does that affect the cf? any input from anyone who knows about cf rotors?

i dont know if they were cf disks. maybe carbon disks though. there is such a thing as carbon steel, and the brake disks on our jets uses a carbon steel metal. if thats the case it wouldnt be any different than the carbon compound brake pads anyone of us can buy over the net.

You really wouldn't be getting any benefits from have carbon fiber piping at all. The weight drop is negligible, since aluminium piping is not that much heavier than carbon fiber. The heat transfer is a bit better than aluminium, but again it's negligible. If looks are what you're after, I would recommend getting aluminium piping and having it powder coated to a carbon fiber or other nice finish. It will be much cheaper and have the same effect.
