You can also set up your tune to pull a ton of timing if it starts reading knock from running lean.
i heard of his failing also ....

Usually there is not enough extra fuel to really affect the tune. The alky usually makes the most power by using its latent heat vaporization properties to cool the intake charge, making it less detonation prone. It also helps to complete certian processes in the cylinder that gas alone cannot, but that a book, not a post.

As soon as they get E85 production going locally and get it at the pumps I'm ditching methanol injection. I'm going to do a basic cheapy 200 dollar meth injection setup and take my chances until then.

It takes too much work to make a truly failure-proof alky injection setup. For the time and effort I'd rather do dual-fuel. You need a standalone to implement the truly 100% engine-won't-blow alky solutions I've seen so you might as well just use it to phase in a second set of injectors with precise fuel metering of some C16 or VP Import. Ride around on 87 Octane and inject oxygenated 120 octane race fuel in boost .

E85 is ethanol, not methanol, dosent work nearly as well with boost as alky. And you dont use twice as much-gas is stichiometric at 14.7-1, e85 is around 9.6, and meth is 6.6.

No... E85 does is not a replacement for Alky injection.

Fail Safes can be added in al sorts of ways. Cheap kits don't add failure safe features, make sure you have someone with experience install it for you and ask about safety features.

It's not cheap to be safe, but no BOOM is a lot cheaper.

Default designing an alcohol/water injection system

People have used water injection to increase power for years
only when you needed more power. Might be easier to tune than alcohol injection. simple ones were manifold vacuum operated.

With some R&D you might be able to use a 5th fuel injector injecting into the air intake stream, and use a separate tank for the alky, with a low fuel alarm and instant ignition kill switch. Serious racers would keep the tank full all the time, or............................ once you knew how often you went through a tank of gas, you would make the alky tank bigger, so you run out of gas before you run out of alcohol.

There are different percentages of alcohol available at
...gasp! Walmart. -Bob

I know what E85 is. It's not going to give the same results methanol injection will but all you need are bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump and you have a fail-safe high-octane pump gas that is only slightly more expensive than premium when you factor in the reduced energy content. All through your stock fuel injection system which is much more fool-proof than any aftermarket meth injection kit. It's 105 octane, with better cooling, and I've seen people pushing 30 psi and decent timing on E85 and making numbers similar to what they'd make on 110 race gas but at a much cheaper price. That's why I'm going to run it when it becomes available.

Also, the day I pay somebody to install something as simple as a meth injection kit is the day I turn in my DIY mechanic credentials.
