Default An understanding of domestic sedan racing/NASCAR

I can give ancient examples where drivers were better than the cars when cars were "dealer-stock".

Later, some MFG's designed their cars to win races, and I can give plenty of examples where car technology became better than the driver.
--------------
From a marketing standpoint, the ideal finish is where all brands of NASCAR's cross the finish line within inches of each other.

From a safety/marketing standpoint, you don't want your fastest stars of the sport dying, so you make a safer car, one that can be claimed to be "equal".

Folks, it's about to go back to where the best DRIVER will win.
I saw this "equal cars" thing coming years ago when I was a tech inspector at a track near the East Coast.

As to Toyota, their engine design takes the advantages of Ford designs
and advantages of Chevy designs, with the disadvantages of neither.
Clever idea. Equal weight of engines in the same place, good idea.-Bob

I like all kinds of cars, and I respect their owners. I can appreciate ALL types of machinery, and you can win with anything.
...............and if you are not winning, see me! -Bob

dont you find it a bit ironic that a "big ricer wing" actually helps the cars stabilty and aerodynamics at higher speeds?

or you just mad the little penis asian guys thought of it first?

noone admits to likeing nascar, yet they have millions upon millions of viewers whom trounces the audience numbers of f1,rally, and most other motorsports put together.

What is the point of nascar anyways? the cars have very little resemblence, and share zero parts with the street going version. the technology will never reach us, i mean who the fuck has a iron block 5.7 lliter carbed camry?

Racing that uses modified street vehicles, like rallying, or races like the rolex24 is more my cup of tea.

dpnt like nascar? change the channel so they get shitty ratings! you watching saying it sucks counts as another viewer.

my left testicle is swollen

Are you trying to say that nascar gets more viewers than F1 and WRC does worldwide? Or just in this country?

I don't think he considered anyone outside of the US.

But....what has become of NASCAR? I watched the race Sunday and I couldn't help but be annoyed.
This "Car of Tomorrow" thing is so lame! It was bad enough before to call these things "stock cars" but now they are all the same car? They are essentially spec cars now, apart from different engines. The Ford is no different from the Chevy, Dodge, or Toyota??? What the.....
ht on Monday, or at least one that looked like it. Of course there isn't one single component on a Nascar that is shared with the factory car, but now the "car of tomorrow" isn't even a real car in any sense of the word. It's a generic car!!!! What the heck?
I know it's been years since NASCAR cars were based on production cars, but this is just rediculous. At least before the roof line, rear deck, and hood shape was supposed to be the same dimensions, right? And we could at least pretend there was some corporate auto-maker involvement, that the chevy or ford decal stood for something, that you could at least root for your fav manufacturer if your driver was out of the race. But now?

To top it off, the driver now sits almost in the middle of the car, and the car has a big wing, and a more upright windshield to make the car less areodynamic, thus keeping speeds on super speedways slower.
What???
I though racing was supposed to be fast, and danger came with the territory. I'm all for more competition....but who wants to watch a bunch of same boring looking cars going slower. More interesting to watch cars speed down I-4.

I like racing, because I like cars....I guess that's what seperates me from most NASCAR fans, most of them are in it for the drama and soap opera-ness of it all. Like wrestling.

Whatever....I guess if I want to watch stock car racing like it used to be, I should watch Touring Car Racing, Rally Car, or GT2/GT3 cars...at least those cars look somewhat like a REAL production cars.
Sorry to offend you diehard NASCAR fans, but you've got to admit, the Car of Tomorrow thing is just plain 'ole goofy. I suggest we call it....
NASCAR = North American Same CAR racing.

I think Nascar does use stock engine blocks, but that's about where there similarity between stock car and street car ends.

Toyota started the Truck series for a couple years now. So I don't think Nascar is anything new to them.

well of course nascar gets more viewers than F1 and WRC in the US! but how many of those viewers actually give a shit about aerodynamics, engineering, the advancement of the automotive industry's technology through motorsport, driver skill and versatility, etc? Most of them just want to see stuff go fast and go BOOM!

For all the politics and "sponsorship" racing venues have I'm starting to lean towards some racing of same make competition rather than Chevy vs. Ford vs Dodge, etc.

Look at Speed World Challenge for example. SCCA attempts at keeping the different makes competitive is highly biased and besides, the teams just end up sandbagging all season long to keep from getting "awards" weight and restrictions.

I would like to see Viper vs. Viper, Porsche vs. Porsche, Vette vs. Vette than see a bunch of restricted cars playing the shell game which is all the World Challenge has become.

Kinda got off the NASCAR topic here but it was to make a point.

Back to the NASCAR bashing...

NASCAR drivers have no skill! Oh wait, they could outdrive every one of you in this thread...

NASCAR drivers are dumb backwater rednecks! Oh wait, they could buy everyone one of you in this thread...

NASCAR cars are all peices of old, outdated, restricted crap! Oh wait, they put out more power than any of your cars in this thread and use billet parts you won't ever have the money to afford...

NASCAR is boring! Oh wait, it has a huge loyal fanbase...larger than any other motorsport...

Hmm....

even then you can't say that f1 gets less viewers! nascar is held every weekend f1 every two weeks nascar has more race's f1 has only 24 i think ?

but f1 is global were nascar is national rally is seconed in the world for the most watched and the third is touring cars(btcc jtcc dtm super v8 etcc speed world challenge ) so nascar is not that important in the grand sceem of racing.. but hey ??

nascar win the viewership win by default because of the more races and the national press !
