Good writeup FastFor and an awsome TA pic of all those Camaros and Mustangs.

As for sponsorship, ultimately it is the public that is the cause. In the past 30 years American sports have become so saturated that people have developed interest beyond auto sports. That part is ok, I prefer the nich market coverage. It is just sad to see how much America's enthusiasm with cars has deteriorated since the 60s and 70s which is a reason why racing isn't the big motivator in car sales the past couple decades (Ferrari and Porsche excluded).

Those cars look like they belong at gandy not in nascar.

Thanks Chuck...you are right. The need for cupholders, folding flat seats, and fuel economy has diluted the public's want for muscle and performance. Sure its still there in moderation, there are still some really potent cars, but back in the "good ole days" everyone wanted power to go along with style. From housewives to hotrodders.

Now car buyers want convienience and economy to go along with all the plasti-chrome. Such is life I guess.

But, I think there would still be room today for a new breed of stock car. One that actually was based on a stock car that the manufacturer built. The cars might be slower, but more fun to watch. Wouldn't you love to see a new SRT8 Charger blowing the doors off of a new ground effects laden Camry? I'd bet that Toyota would start building rear drive, V8 Camrys really fast, and The Fusion would be scrapped for a supercharged V8, AWD Ford Fivehundred/Taurus. yeah...that's more like it.

Oh, and I agree with Cos....F1 isn't much better than NASCAR, with all the sponsors, and driver soap-opera story lines, not to mention I can't tell a Ferrari from a Honda, they all look the same to me. Eh...its cool and all, just not my bag.

Some folks knock NASCAR for being low-tech. But F1 has been moving away from high-tech for the past few years.
ABS was gone in the 90s.
Pit-to-car computer was removed a couple years ago.
In 2008 tc will be gone.

Eliminate those faggy paddle shifters and put a clutch pedal back in them and the driver's might actually have to use the skill they proved they have to get those F1 rides.

f1 is not going to low tech that what makes them f1 car you will never see a tube frame carbed f1 car eveer agin the tc and pit car stuf is gone but the the tech of the car is in the areo package and the materls they make them from whens the last time nascar had a cf gearbox body or hydrolic valve spring's / what they call them valve dampeners

i have ADD so nascar & F1 is out of the question BUT i think performance cars are back in the swing of things.Even tho they may be only 4 bangers but american companies are bringing back the muscle and cant wait for the skyline to hit the streets.

I like drifting, drag racing & time attack because its like a battle not just to see whos engine gives out first. Most nascar fans i know just watch it for the crashes.

I didn't mean to imply that they were. In the past F1 was always about tech and the cars. The point I wanted to make was that F1 has realized they surpassed the driver/tech threshold and are moving towards (backwards if you will) putting more of the talent on the shoulders of the driver rather than the engineers. Which I consider a good thing.

Ah I see.The way you worded your last post made it seem like you were saying it's a bad thing. I like the fact that they got rid of telemetry.
