Although a few people said that this should be discussed between Jerry and S&R I disagree. We need to see how a new shop can handle thing. Humilty is much to be spoken for. There are many tuners and builds (3 I can think of off the top of my head) that are very very well know but I refuse to take my car there simply because of their attitude. S&R seems to be way to defensive about the situation which makes you wonder.. why? After reading this I would never consider taking my car to S&R. The Jerry's dyno experience is not the reason at all. Sure it is a new shop, they are going to have problems it's to be expected, but as a new shop it is their responsibility to make things right and admit their faults. If S&R had simply appologized and said they really weren't sure wether it was their fault or not (not taking any blame) but said that they are a new shop, still learning how to use their equipment and that with a little time they know they will have everything worked out, I would definitely take my car to a shop like that. Jerry is an awsome guy and his cars are amazing. When I blew the 16g on my old awd talon Jerry jumped right in and gave me an amazing deal on a new turbo and was definitely one of the most down-to earth people I have met.

To sum it up I am saying I would not go to S&R simply because of their attitude, based on what they have posted and what has been said they have said. Mishaps happen and everyone knows that, but ignorance will be their downfall.

I've been reading your thread and just wanted to offer this. You can badmouth S&R all you'd like. As they're a business and not a person, and as such a public entity voluntarily exposing themself to publicity, slander and libel laws are very lax.

Basically, as long as they can't PROVE you said something about them to intentionally hurt their character with the knowledge at that time that it was false, you can say whatever you want. They will take no action because there is no action to take - that was an empty threat. Fuck them. Blast 'em with everything you have and don't be scared of some punkass threatening you. Just don't single anyone out unless you're giving facts and actual happenings - slander and libel laws regarding a private person not voluntarily in the limelight (such as a politican, movie star, athlete, etc) are a bit trickier.

If you'd like any more info on what you can and can't say about these asshats, please drop me a PM, I'll be more than happy to help. (Yes, I am TF's offical armchair lawyer with a full 3 college law classes under my belt. )

People make threats out of FEAR.
I would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau BBB.
State the facts.

Fact: BBB doesn't have any clout anymore. They also have no legal authority. Its better to bitch on the websites.

Good information VIP. Legal action will soon be taken on them for the cost of the repairs. I will be contacting you very shortly.

I with my extensive mechanical backround helped customers out twice by taking work back to my house (since I live 3 minutes away) to try to get their cars back on the road in a pinch. Both these occassions where late at night with no compensation at all. Just trying to help a new shop out. This was after my car had already been hurt.

The problems came when I attempted to discuss with S&R about how a load bearing dyno works. They really had no clue as to the problems that can occur when used incorrectly. 3 times I was told the load was not adjustable. I called the manufacture of the dyno to find the load is infinately adjustable. The dyno sweep is also fully adjustable and that is where the problem was. The sweep setting was wWAY too long. it would have taken 33 seconds to sweep from 3-7500. Look at any dyno pull on the net and you will see the power sweep lasts only a few seconds. Maybe 8 seconds tops. Powerful cars are 2-5 seconds as they would be on the street. The more power you make the faster the sweep will be. I have the dyno printout if anyone wants to refute the facts here. But that would be silly.

I am 100% sure the damage to my car would not have occured if the sweep had been set correctly.THATS THE BOTTOM LINE. The sweep setting is something the operators of the dyno should have known how to set correctly. Unfortunately they WERE NOT and at least two cars out of six suffered damage that shouldn't have happened. S&R has made it very clear to me that they just want to protect their pretty face and sweep this under the rug. I on the other hand thinks it benefits everyone in the game to get the facts straight. This way others in the future can learn from mistakes made and hopefully avoid them. S&R clearly does not want to admit they made a mistake. And worse they resort to threatening me like a 6th grader.

Those are the facts. I think it would be best to link this to as many boards as posssible. Potential customers need to be made aware.
WOW!!! After the fact that the car blue you still went out there and continued to help out and support a new shop? Sounds like Jerrys reputation.

S&R, all shops have growing pains and even fuck up sometimes...

It's how they handle those situations that will make them a loved shop by the community.

As always, two sides to every story. One side may be a little more right than the other but this is the first negative thing I've heard about S&R and one bad experience shouldn't be enough to turn anybody off. If it were, there wouldn't be any shops for anybody to take their car.

I've known some terrific mechanics that got chased out of the business by pain in the ass customers.

I've also known some terrific mechanics that had the diplomacy of Hitler.

Better for both sides to learn from the experience and move forward. My bets are that S&R will rise to the occasion and do what they need to do to make customers happy. If I'm wrong about that then they won't last more than a couple years, if I'm right they will be around until I retire from tracking, which hopefully won't be for another 25 years.
