The speed limiter is accurate I'm sure, but flawed. It does not affect 5th gear in the E46 M3, so you can redline it without a fuel cut off. Hit 6th gear and you will slow down as the engine cuts throttle to limit you to 155.
With the linear hp/torque delivery of the new V10s the new M5 and M6 aren't going to 'feel' as fast as cars that have a rush of torque earlier in the RPM range -- same with my M3.
When you are cutting a hard corner at 100-130mph (turn 17 and turn 1, Sebring) and applying throttle it is a lot easier to be accurate if you have a linear power band.

I can see why a linear powerband would be preferable in that regard, but I always go for street...basically my car goals are equal to the USCC that SCC magazine has yearly, except not using race fuel

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
