LS1 Fbody - Run mid-high13's bone stock
96-98 Cobra - Run high 13's bone stock

Import
Integra GSR - Low 15's
Civic Si - Mid-High 15's
Eclipse GST/GSX - high 14's?
240sx - low 15's?

feel free to add on... its a bang for the buck kind of thing.. Vipers, and V12 cars are faster, sure, but you'll be spending ATLEAST 5x as much for one of them
You forgot a few other Imports..

Z32 TT stock high 13's easily found for 8k.

If your going to compare the crap for stock speed imports such as the Civic to a cobra mustang, its easy to see who will win.

edit: After reading through the forums, I think the imports have pretty much proven some of their points against the original poster. There are plent of imports that can MORE then hang with the Domestics.. Problem is, imports didnt seriously start getting fast until the 90's when they started to take off. So the faster imports are generally still more expensive.

im 21, have had a fox body and now my LS1. full time ME college student, paid for ALLLLLLLLLLL my own shit.

i guess it all depends on how bad you want it

NOT having a 2500 civic, not having a four cylinder and still get 17mpg when beating on it hard= priceless

ps, just so you dont think my fox was a typical 14 year old car. A lot of time, money, effort, and blood went into that car

sorry man, no dorm, got my own apartment. and yes, i paid for ALLLL of it myself, my parents didnt help shit. ok, maybe tires for christmas or something, but it was all on my own.

that was the best part, when i was still in highschool, my car was king of the parking lot for a long time. and it was all on my dime

and ill take 17mpg as good, shit when im beating on it its fucking great are you kidding????????????? my usual is 21-22mpg on a reg tank, so how bout that, is that better?

and that shit about you just throwing it in there, why bother then? that just goes to show me you really arent even trying for a decent argument or anything, just throwing in BS

but its all good, everyone has their own opinions, mine is just if i want to go fast, then i dont worry about economy. if that was high on my list of shit to care about, then i wouldnt be driving this car. its staying stock until im out of college, i cant be wrenching on it every other weekend, breakage is now officially too expensive

funny how all the domestic owners are saying they would rather have lots of HP and it be reliable and the Honda boys are pulling engines out left and right.

isnt that an oximoron? since Imports last for ever and domestics break as soon as you turn them on? my domestic 91 Bravada might not be fast but at 207k miles on the original motor and rear end It sure as hell is reliable!

I also got suckered into that "imports last longer" thing, and I went and bought a 92 All-Trac thinking this because that was supposed to be my DD, well the engine is sitting next to the car and I will need to rebuild it because its got 120k with valve tapping. I should of bought a Typhoon since I wanted awd and turbo.

You guys are missing the point. V8 powered vehicles where made to get out of there own way. Most where made to be fast!

4 cylinder vehicles where made to be economy cars and cheap as well as easy on the pocket and great on gas.

It takes alot for a little car which was never intended to be fast, to beat a car that was built and bred to follow in the lines of past muscle cars.

Once the market got to the point where faster cars where more requested the manufacturers tried to get in on some of this modding money. Here come the turbo cars, These cars are made to keep up with the stock modern but yet still average priced muscle v8 cars yet still retain good gas milage.

All in all, this is a v8 sport, not a econo sport. V8's have always been faster and will be faster than an economy 4 banger. Times are now changing, the import cars are getting faster and cost is going up on them as well as v8's.

If I wanted to have a nasty track car I would build a v8, I'll get further with my money but on the street there limited.

If I wanted to have a nasty street car thats good on gas and is a killer from a dig on the streets, I would build an import hybrid awd that would dominate.

All in all, if you want true killer performance, v8 is the choice to go with, if you want a fun street car that no one expects to be fast and love it when jaws drop, I would get a import with a killer swap and awd.

Import vs Domestic, I know of only one import that can go mod for mod with a v8 toe to toe on the street. Any awd 4g63 based mitsu from the would get the job done, but reliability is an issue so in the end the V8 ends...

I like the element of suprise, the feeling you get when a bragger is shut up and never saw it coming. I chose a 4cyl awd hybrid for myself...Is it worth it, to me yes. For a drag car no, its all about what you want out of your hobbie

I tell you what, the import guys do alot to keep up with muscle cars with a vehicle that was never intended to, so please show some respect and give credit to those who have done the almost impossible

There really hasnt been an import that ive driven thats impressed
I have been in many American cars. From old Fox Bodies, SS's, many many stangs, and even a Vette. Like I said and most ppl know they were moving there ass's in a straight line. They were perfect drag cars but to me that was it. I don't really care for some of the american cars because of looks, interior, and most of them just dont handle as well as and import. But yes I admit I was impressed when we took off in some of them. But these are big engine cars. If they can't go fast then what the hell are they for?

Im more impressed with imports. For example an Impreza WRX STI. Its a small sedan with a 2.5 turbo flat-4 boxer with AWD. And it still runs with the big boys. Doing 0-60 in under 5 sec. and the 1/4 in the 13's to high 12's. Plus it can damn sure handle. That to me is impressive.

But its not just about the Japaness cars. I love european cars. They look good, have great build quality, a nice interior, handle great, and most of them are pretty fast.

If I wanted a big V8, and one day I do, it still would not be American. I'd get an new Audi S4 with a V8 or if I had the money an Audi RS4 also has a V8. To me Audi with a V8> Almost any American car with a V8.
But thats just me.

I come from the domestic side of the block, I've had a big chevy, and a 5.0 mustang. I miss torque on demand, and the prices for domestic speed parts. I recently built a Honda, because it's what ended up in my garage, and I like tinkering with cars. My little brother got 36 tickets while driving it, and lost his license. So we parked it and spent the last year turboing the stock SOHC, and are basically hoping to pull a low 13 or high 12 out of it on occasion. Nothing spetacular, but not too shabby. But building it has let me know that the import market rapes customers on prices for parts. I can't believe what we were having to pay for new rods, pistons, valves, cam, etc. We ended up turning to a lot of used components to stay within our budget. That's my biggest bitch about the import cars.

The 300zx is a good car, and I don't think it's by any means "easy" to find a nice clean one for under $8000... especially with decent mileage. They are also a not very reliable car, a couple of my close friends have had them.

The 300zx like I said is a very respectible car, but for the money you can still have a ls1 car more than 5 years newer, and with much less miles and still run better times stock for stock

And import owners have already "proved their point" that they can swap, and add forced induction to stay with a stock v8? I already posted you can still get a shitbox foxbody and beat a shitbox civic or 240 for the same price
