SRT4's sound nasty but that doesn't mean their stout. Their trannies are as bad as DSM trannies or far worst since they seem to break a lot sooner then DSM trannies. They have many other problems as well. Hence why their no longer in the market. Seems like Evo's just keep coming out stronger and stronger every year. A SRT stock vs Evo stock will not win from a roll all day. Evo makes more then 230hp stock. I think traction is the main concern and the Evo would win in both hp and traction not to mention handling as well and many other aspects.

comparing what the motors do and make stock is great and all, but....in the grand scheme of things and the way we mod our cars it really doesnt mean shit the SRT motor is stout as hell and nobody is to deny that i've seen over 500 whp with my own eyes on a totally stock bottom end, but the history and versatility of the 4G63 is unmatched. when you look at its history, what 4 cyl motor has achieved more, road race, rally race, drag race, drifting, and even on the dyno, its a shame that its good name gets dragged through the mud because of the not so great build quality and tendency to be problematic of the Eclipse

Uhhhhh...they are no longer on the market because Dodge thought it was time to retire the highly successful econobox Neon and rerelease it as the Caliber. The SRT4 returns next year with a 6 speed and 300HP...

its ok, they can be ignorant all they want, you notice most of the eclipses with the problems are the modded ones...just keep up with the maintenance and it can be a perfectly reliable car. now the reason i think there are alot that break often, is because its a cheap car, easy to make fast, so kids who dont know anything can afford them and get em and dont mod em right, and dont buy the proper tuning tools.

No kidding, you are pretty much maxing out your turbo, 26 psi daily, and resorted to using methanol, and except for the starter, how long has it been since you've had problems? How many monthes? For people bitching about how unreliable Eclipses are, this mere 18 year old has had quite a reliable car since he was 16!

ok since this thread is soooo long, i didnt have to to read all through it, but the best 4cly engine of all time is the TOYOTA 20R ! it was built to last forever and deliver lots of trouble free power. they were built with super thick cyl walls with water going all the way around them for much better cooling (unlike most other egines) , and they also had big double row timing chains that lasted for ever! i've seen alot of them with 300K and 400K miles on them and still going strong! of course toyota soon realized that they were built too strong, so then shortly after the 22R's came out, they started cheezing em out really bad!
