Correct me if I am wrong, but...
Up to '99 the Jetta GLS & GL's were fitted with the 2.0 115hp motor, GARBAGE, the GLX was the 2.8 V6 (172 hp), also a TDI was offered. past 99 the GL was fitted with a 2.0(115hp still) or the 1.9 TDI engine, and the GLS was either 2.0 or the 1.8t (150hp up to 2001, 2002 was 180hp). The GLI was the VR6 and in '02.5 they upgraded the VR6 engine from 172 hp to 200.
