i agree with taking a picture of the sign, at night and during the day and show the judge where the cop was parked

and as for you exhaust, tell him to give you the stock decible reading of a 96 200SX SE-R, and then with a calibrated decible-meter to go and test your car, and if they can prove it beyond a reasonable shadow of a doubt, then pay it, if not, screw them

the law says you can't have an exhaust louder than stock, not modified, but louder, so tell them to prove it, and if they say just listen to it, say hey, it doesn't sound louder to me, your perceiving it louder...so shutup

good luck man

Like i said the sign was knocked over
if this is true.. take a couple digi pictures. Print em out, and show the judge. If your being honest here.. this one will be dropped. The exhaust ticket will stick if you have anything other than a STOCK exhaust on your car.. dont even bother.

i don't know how to look up statutes, so i can't get proof, but as i said, it doesn't say it can't be modified, it just can't be louder than stock

you need to check the law again. Its been posted up in most of these exhaust threads. Its illegal to have a modified exhaust as well.

wrong. MODIFIED is the word used. No say of needing to use tools to see just how loud it is on paper. If it's modified IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM FROM THE ORIGINAL PIECE(S) it's in violation.

Save yourself the trouble with the exhaust ticket.

here's a nice clip from it...

316.272 Exhaust systems, prevention of noise.--

(1) Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with an exhaust system in good working order and in constant operation, including muffler, manifold pipe, and tailpiping to prevent excessive or unusual noise.

Unusual noise - meaning any form of altered form of a vehicles factory equipped emissions system. (exhaust)

The current exhaust law is overly Draconian.

Don't get me wrong, I hate fart-cans, but saying modified in ANY way is ridiculous.

Is there a statue of limitations on those TotalChaos? IE: Cars older than suchandsuch are exempt? I'd hate for my stock exhaust system to rust out and have it replaced w/ a NON-OEM setup and get pulled over for that.

Not that it would ever happen on my car, but it happens to others.
