You can wrap your headers or whatever, but like it says on the package..you are supposed to coat it afterwards Most of you apparently missed this part. You are supposed to coat it in a silicone rattle can stuff. Its high temp and doesnt allow water to get to the wrap so it cannot get wet.

This of course does not prevent the water from escaping when you first turn the motor on though..

that just coats the outside of the wrap, what about the cracks in the wrap where you overlay it, what about the moisture that is already inside of it? it may help to do the silicone spray but not 100% efective

heat wrap i would run only on my down pipe and other tubes..i wouldn't run it on my headers them self one the cost to damn much for small blocks and they do and will make your headers crack...

ceramic coating will work better i think if done right..

remeber no matter what your headers will crack on a turbo app..just depends on how long and how much heat your turbo builds..i think the wrap will crack a header faster then not running any thing and ceramic coating will make the header last the longest..

also u wont really be able to tell if your shit is cracked with the wrap when it does happen..u will notice a boost leak on your gauge but it will be hard to track down more then likely...just my 2 cents

+1 for the wrap-increased exhuast gas velocity=greater overlap scaveging=more hp
Every superstocker, prostocker and cup car uses it for a reason

^lol u have no clue man..it doesn't increase the velocity..u dont see them on pro stock cars ihra or nhra..i dont even see how u came up with that..they run stepped turbe headers on them engines witch increase exh velocity..go to the track at a big heads up event and u will hardley see exh wrap on the headers..more ceramic coating then anything

OK dumbass, time to get called on that one...Stepped tube headers produce exactly timed rarefaction waves of low pressure through the pipe, ever seen a tuning fork? same principle. Or I could explain to you about the bulk modulas of elasticity principle concerning exhaust flow and how it relates to stepped headers, but I have no clue...Damn me being clueless, well, back to designing cylinder heads...
Bottom line, I try not to be a dick, but dont tell me I have no clue. Im intouch on a daily basis with some of the biggest names in racing engine development and like to help on this site when people need an accurate educated response. Not, alky makes 7 more hp per 100...huh? Go back to reading hot rod or car craft/whatever (the ultimate racing bibles)hehe

stepped tube headers scavenging exhaust port and speed up the valocity of the exh gases.

and for one i read engine masters out of all the mags...u really think u are the only person on here that has talked to some of the top engine builders in the country..come on now..and yes pretty much rule of thumb is u make 7 more hp for every 100 on a engine when switching from race gas to alky on an engine..but i'm not here to get into a pissing match..

please back up your statement with the exh valocity being speeded up by adding a wrap on the out side...because if it truely is so i would like to read and learn more about it..but from every one i've talked to ceramic coating is the way..

Dragula- Ok dude that's cool, I'm not calling you out or anything, but...

It's not as though those engines are the epitome of reliability. We're talking about street engines on the streets. Not something that is going to be rebuilt after every run.

ok no need to start a pissing match over opinons....keep it civil, this was started to get a simple answer about header wrapVS.ceramic coating, i believe it was answered a few times already no need to have a hissy fit because someone else has a difference in opinons....

i wrapped my header...looks great too...reduced engine heat ALOTTT!!

i wrapped it...then sealed it with black silicone spray..then used my heatgun to get it to dry faster..

after that i wrapped it with a foil tape..from downpipe to the head..that way..the way it overlaps..it will be like shingles on a roof
water will flow off of it..

its good stuff..but it kinda sucks to work with..doesnt like to be cut...and its itchy

but for budget cooling..heat wrap > ceramic coating
