i forgot you were a welder/fabricator, why don't you replace the fuel tank and fabricate a skid plate for it?
seems like to take all the trouble to run the lines andeverything, you could be plenty safe with an OE tank and something to keep it from being punctured

That's was my plan after I get the car tuned, but it caught me before i ever did.
1/4" steel plate should do fine over the belly of the gas tank.

i think aluminum would do just as well with much less weight and easier to fabricate without the risk of rust
