Sounds like either the steering lock is on or you need to take the whole friggin thing out.
My friend's 95 MX-3 had that problem...we could hot wire that thing so easily, but the key wouldnt go in instead and the steering lock was still functional.
Good luck man. Never had that problem on my Toyotas

This happened to my brother. Ended up being the battery. But this was in his Nissan Sentra. Everytime the key got locked in the ignition and wouldn't come out was because his battery was weak or terminals were loose. Thats the only thing I know maybe thats what it is.

yup. you feel like a RETARD when it works too. my mom laughed at me on the phone one time when it happened to me.
here's a list of what i did so far:
tried the key jiggle and repeatedly turning the wheel
tried putting wd-40 on the key and in the cylinder
tried using the shift lock override to shift the car in nuetral and repeatedly step 1.
tried pushing in the pin(that releases the cylinder) with alot of force to see if it will break free
got desperate and tried to use a good ole fashion flat head screw driver.

I can't even begin to tell you how many late 80's early 90's camry's I have jumped in at auctions and bid sales and not been able to turn the key. Seriously, they're the only one that sticks out in my mind because it happens half the time I try to drive one.
