Default New Shelby GT500

Just walked out to get the mail and picked up my July issue of Motortrend with a review on the new GT500.

42k base price
0-60 - 4.5
1/4 - 12.7@116
60-0 braking - 110ft

500hp/480tq
Curb Weight: 3990 lbs

Not really a mustang fan myself, but seems that the 03' Cobra's were better looking and a much better bang for the buck?

This new 42k GT500 barely edges out the 03' in a 1/4 mile drag and we all know how much cheaper the the 03's were.

I'd say they missed the mark with this one pricing it within spitting distance of a base model C6 that does NOT weigh nearly as much as a fullsize pickup and gets great gas mileage.

Discuss.........

Its Ford, what did you expect

I personally think the new GT500s are pretty nice, I'll take one in that lime green color w/ black stripes please.

They are just selling a name on that car. I'd get a C6 over that car all day long. It will be a close race with a C6 and C5 Z06 in the 1/4 mile. On a road course, it won't be able to keep up with a vette.

since when is 42k in spitting distance of 72k? thats almost an entire extra gt500...

i think the car is priced correctly, they have all the right stuff for what the mustang is for. a z06 is not a car to be daily driven. this mustang will be. of course i hope not many people will actually use it as a daily driver. they will be collector cars some day.

were they ever really aiming to beat vettes though? serious question. mustangs competition was always the maros and f bodies. not the corvettes.

I have no idea how you would compare this car to the new Z06 which is in a class by itself right now.

The base MSRP on a regular C6 vette is only 44,500 which this GT500 is close to in performance......

im comparing prices. not cars themselves. i stated in my second comment that they were always meant to compete with camaros and f bodies. not vettes. a new z06 base msrp is 72 grand. but you cant even find them for that.

edit: fuck nevermind, im a dumbass. i just went back and read it again

ok, so lets do this again. i still think 42k is a good price for the car. the base model c6 will be just another corvette like the other basemodels from the 80's, 90's, and 00's. this wont be just another mustang. just as the cobra wont be. and the z06 wont be just another vette. id buy it over the c6 base. costs less, will get more attention from enthusiasts. will keep its price longer most likely, and you will always have a piece of history knowing you had the first gt500 since the muscle car era. and probably one of the last cars shelby will ever help produce.

and I'm saying when you price it at 42k it better compete with em'

To put the weight in perspective, a new 2007 550i BMW sedan with a V8 weighs slightly less than this thing.

but can it do 12.7 in the 1/4? and i agree it should compete, and it will be close in performance. but the c6 base just wont be able to compare in awe factor.
