Default Stewart predicts death at Daytona

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11316424/

Stewart said “bump drafting” was out of control, with drivers slamming into competitors heading into turns, running through them and coming out of them.

“We’re sitting here watching TV before we came down here and they’re talking about the tribute to Dale Earnhardt,” Stewart said. “Well, five years from now we’re going to have to do another tribute to another driver because we’re probably going to kill somebody from Wednesday through Sunday.

The sport is getting dangerous and the only way to stop it is the drivers. Tony might not be hitting it on the head with someone getting killed, but it can/will cause a big accident. If you bump draft someone to much, you can easily lift the rear wheels off the ground, which can cause a catistrophic accident. Only time will tell if the problem will ever get solved. Personally, I dont see it coming to an end anytime soon.

I think he has a point but the drivers aren't responsible, it's the physics of the car and the way the builders/engineers do their job. I think his suggestion to make the noses soft so if you do bump draft it hurts your aerodynamics is great. With a softer nose you can't use the bump without losing massive amounts of speed and it would certainly make those corners alot safer.

It looked like Stewart contributed to a few wrecks, himself.-Bob

Nascar should get rid of restrictor plates but impose aerodynamic restrictions at tracks like Daytona and Talladega, that would take away some of the importance of drafting.
