Need HELP!!...
I have a 99 VW Passat 1.8T, and for the past month or so once or twice a day I'll have problems getting it started. Or if it does start right up it will rev high then run ok, then may not start the next time. I can always get it going after a few tries, but I'm afraid I will get stuck somewhere, and have no clue what's wrong with it. Paul thinks the turbo may be going bad...any other ideas?

umm i dont think the turbo has much to do with it starting...post this in VW tech...bisquitman prolly could tell you whats wrong with it...take it to a VW dealer and have a mechanic look at it...
how high does it rev when you start it? and do you hear a click whenever it doesnt start?

thats what i was gonna say..thats why i asked how high it was going...
if its jumping up to like 2500+ something wrong..but mine will go up to 1100 and back down to idle..and thats only when its cold..

It jumps up pretty high (beween 3-4) and will sometimes bounce up and down, even when I start driving, (almost like it'll drive itself?) As for the starting, no clicks, it sounds like it wants to start, but takes like 4 tries before I can get it going??....

its your coilpacks or your MAF...check both....

if the idle bounces up and down check to see if there's a vaccum leak. that sometimes causes the idle to bounce that way. as far as starting up check the starter maybe. my cousin had a passat....went back to the dealer 12 times in a year and a half.
