Bingo. Numbers matching also includes correct paint an options. If you've got a VIN for a non-AC car and it has ice cold air, that car isn't numbers matching anymore. You've gotta have the correct driveline, with correct year parts, as well as correct paint and options to make it truely numbers matching.

Well my appraisal says mine is "numbers matching" and I dont have the original paint or interior colors. It mainly appiles to the driveline and body. You can't prove a Chevy muscle car is numbers matching, because they never stamped the last six of the vin on the block or trans. Same with Mopars before about 1966. Usually you see them advertised as "survivor", those are just what they imply, over 60% original paint and ALL original parts. What you guys are describing is probly "Concorse restoration or correct restoration" is one that is completly restored to ALL original numbers. That including paint, and all options. I've seen cars completly stripped of all parts but the driveline and be called numbers matching.

+1

numbers matching only refer to the motor/trans not paint or interior.

I guess the only person that would know exactly what it means is the one who came up with it.

This is how it goes at a Mopar show. First they check the body code plate. Then they look at the vin on the dash and door. Then the stamping on the front core support, and cowl (if it has it there) then the stamping on the trunk striker housing. When all these numbers match, if he's skinny like me he will crawl under the car, check the #'s on the driveline. When he emerges from under the vehicle he will announce at that point that the car is numbers matching. Plain and simple. Same with auto appraisers. This is determined before any of the other numbers on the body code plate are crunched.

Well not entirely because usually your intake manifold and accessories won't all have " numbers " on them. Basically it just means motor to the car , number match. Orig motor to orig car.
