Default Ticket Question

I was going SB on 408 doing about 80 and I look over and see a state trooper looking back at me. He then pulls me over and says I was going 90. I have a radar detector which didn't go off and I didn't see him anywhere on the side of the road so I'm sure he didn't radar me. On the ticket it says "Pace Clock or Pack Clock" something like that, so I'm wondering if this means he got my speed by driving next to me. If this is the case then I plan on taking it to court for a few reasons being: He had to be going faster than me to catch up to me, how do we know his speedometer isn't off, there is no way I was doing 90 because I looked at my speedometer and there was traffic around no allowing me to go that fast, and how would I be doing EXACTLY 90 mph because that sounds like an estimate. Any input would be greatly appreciated as to what "Pace clock" means, if anybody else has had this type of ticket, or if there is any other information I could use in court, thanks.

Pace clock means he paced you to clock you. That's why he did not use radar/you did not detect radar. Most police cars have a "certified" speedometer.
I have a 5-panel mirror in my car to see who is around me.........for you guys who laughed back when I bought it.

You needed the unlimited ticket defenses service ($16/mo) before this "pre-existing condition" occurred. My heart goes out to you dude. -Bob

As to court, it's too late *this* time to get the free representation in court,
but if you can sign up at the website, you CAN get free consulting with a traffic attorney specialist by phone. Ask him what to expect and how to best defend yourself. Let us know how it turns out. -Bob

I see your argument, but i wouldnt bring up in court you got a radar detector. I would mention the traffic and stuff though. your argument says his speedometer could be off, his could say yours is off, which might require testing of your cars, if thats teh case it could cost you more money in the long run. Although im not sure what the speed limit is where you were at. if it was 75 or something and you were going 80 then yeah i would fight it. Most judges will throw it out of court if its under 15mph over since they could have just tagged you trying to pass someone. But its up to you.

Also the officer may not even show up to court so you may just get off by that.

Thanks for all the help guys. I would of course say in court that I was going 70 mph. I was just listening to music, cruising, so I didn't see him pull up next to me but I mean I really don't think I was going 90 mph and when you are looking at a speedometer its hard to tell the EXACT speed.

Oh I forgot to add that he pulled me over in a 55 but there was a sign maybe 50 feet ahead of me that said 65 so he wrote down 65 on the ticket.

... Wait... You were doing a constant "cruising" speed of 80 mph in a 50 zone?... you deserve that ticket

Yeah i dont think you have any hope of fighting it. Your lucky the cop didnt arrest you for reckless driving. I was thinking you were going 80 in a 75 zone.

the cop couldn't have arrested you for reckless driving, so don't listen to the peanut gallery. Cops speedometers are ALL calibrated, so don't try that. The cops usually show up to court because they get overtime for it, so don't listen to the peanut gallery.

A cop has to pace you for a quarter of a mile before they can write you a ticket. There's something you might think about.
