Question
try spraying water on the wires with the car in park, and a little throttle. look for slight spark or bubbling. sounds to me like its wires/plugs.
it has brand new msd plug wires on it and they have the heat shields on them but i also thought that and i was just lightly scanning over them to see if i could find anything and i couldent see nothing and i just replaced the plugs yesterday so.i will look at the wires again because thats what i think it could be.
just replaced erry sensor on the motor, plug wires good, new o2 sensors, vacuum lines good, brand new distrubuter the only thing i havent replaced is the ecu and the maf sensor.when u unplug the maf sensor i heard if its bad then the car should run good when unpluged, but when u unplug it it just runs the same.so i dont know if thats bad but i think the computer could be bad,i dont know anything else to try.does anybody know where to get a cheap new computer for the car?junkyards, dealers, autopart stores, or friends that might have one.the car runs alot better than when i got it.all its doing now is idleing up and down and i cant figure it out, help?thanks
can you find someone in the area with the same car and maybe just swap comps real quick? and i know it may sound really off, but could it possibly be a fuel problem? like a bad or clogged filter? Just throwing out idea to try and help ya bud.
i know man..i apprecate all the help.the car has 200 thousand miles on it and its originally a v6 its clonned over to the z28 i just found out and the motor and all the parts out of the parts car to make this happen has like 60 thousand on it.when i changed the o2 sensor on it i found that one of them was still a factory sensor with 200 thousand miles on it so maybe the fuel filter has the same mles?i'll check it out but wouldent it get shitty through all the rpm?the car runs good its just when u sit there and idle it starts to like breath pretty much.like fluxuates in rpm from 1000 to 15 hundred.
the car came to a stop yesterday and shut off, then it started right back up and was running kinda shitty but then cleared out and like 2 hours later when the car was coming to a stop again it shut off then wouldent start for 5 minitues.when it finally started it was running real shitty then cleared out again and hasent done it sense.the pump has never been changed but the filter got changed 1 month ago.would the pump from the v6 on those be diffrent then the z28?and who locally has a fuel pressure tester?
I would imagine that yes the pump with a 6 would not pump enough to satisfy the hunger of the 8. So in all actuality, she might just be a little hungry.
for the idle...i can tell you on my honda it did the same thing, and i thought it was a vacuum leak, MAP sensor, Idle air control valve...etc. went over/replaced it all and the damn thing still surged from 1-2k. we ended up blocking off the ports for the IACV in the throttle body and now it idles beautifully...you just have to hold the gas yourself for a fast idle when cold. i just dont know if you have TBI or MPFI, so i dunno if that's an option for you...
as for the shitty running recently...
maybe the fuel pump?
the last v8 that i had did that (but it was carbureted), so i thought the carb needed rebuilt/tuned, so after all of that and playing w/vacuum hoses it still would cut off, need to "clear out" and wouldnt idle at all. ended up needing a valve job (but that was on a '74 w/ original motor...back when they used the same valves for the "new" unleaded gas motors that they did in the leaded ones...it was explained to me that they F up regularly on those valves..........but obviously that's a very different situation....)
you said it had 200k on it so i'm just throwing out ideas
