My STi was pretty effin loud, but no cop ever paid any attention, even when following behind and/or next to me. I think it has more to do with exhaust tone more than anything else (STi was very deep, it had been mistaken for having a V8 more than once!).

ive been pulled over for so much dumb shit and not once have any cops said anything about my exaust (both of my maxima's were loud as hell and so was my cutlass) lucky man but wait till its ported..........
