These threads always seem to show who is a import fan and who is a V8 fan. If I was deciding between the two a 3rd gen fox body and a 240 ask yourself what you want. Do I want sound and stop light acceleration or do I want a car, with plenty of mods and tuning to be a car that can hang with Vettes without sacrificing gas mileage.
So basically I would go with a Mustang because Im biased but someone with a idea and a dream for a import due to the ability to be completely different than every other 240 on the road.
On a Mustang you still would seem like every other Stang on the road. Flowmaster exhaust Cobra R wheels and etc. A 240 could be a better DD with mods.
So what do you want? Girl attracting Stang or a car ricer wannabes are jealous of?

 

im not doggin on stangs i know stangs can be badd ass but im just more towards 240s lol look at what i drive no matter what is said im gonna be for the 240

If I had to pick one for a ground up build. I would have to choose the Mustang.
Personally I think it looks better and starting out with a 5.0 and the aftermarket support for that engine would make life so much simpler.

I think that the mustang has more potential because of displacement, it all comes down to how much money you wanna throw in to it.

240sx 2.4L x 2 = 4.8L
Mustang 302 = 4.99L (call it a 5.0)

240sx 155hp
Mustang ~230hp (?)

Right out of the box, the Mustang 5.0 will be faster in every way, shape, and form (considering both cars are in the same condition).

The Mustang can be made faster for less.

The 240sx has many more options looks/suspension/interior-wise and can be made just as fast, with more money.

Like stated above, for straight-line speed, the Mustang wins hands down. For anything else, the 240sx takes the cake.

That being said, I own a '93 240sx coupe and an S2000. Obviously, I'm not all about straight-line speed (except the Nova sittin in my mom's garage that I plan to build up someday )
