Last Saturday I went to the Sunriders Miata Club monthly Autocross
at St Pete College in St pete.
Man was that great! 4 classes and run what you brung.
Classes were novice autocrosser, experienced autocrosser,
street tires and race tires.
Everybody got in *7* runs, regardless of what their time was,
regardless of whether you were "eliminated" or not.
Lots of track time, with free pizza and drinks for lunch.
Super low pressure with no trophy or money on the line.

They could have entered another 20 more cars, and guess what? Fastest time of day was a N/A Honda! It wasn't won by a turbo, not by NOS, it was won overall by a N/A Honda.................but that guy could DRIVE.

It was held on the Law enforcement driving range, the same place they
teach high speed driving to the cops.

Next event is mid-November and you can check their website for

I went to there event in july and it was a blast, I can't wait to go again.

 

Man, you guys had pizza? Weak..we always got vietnamese food (which was damn tasty) or subs (which were also tasty) so I guess I can't complain.

But yeah, Sunriders is awesome.

I think I remember that CRX that took first, that thing is a completely gutted, trailered car if I'm not mistaken, running on race tires. Hard to compare that to a full street car.

 

You are right about not comparing to a trailered car. Not everybody goes for top time of day.
Some people just want to learn how their *car* handles as is, for the street.
and some people want to learn how *they* can drive to the max, without an el expenso trackday.

They're fun events for sure with a good laid-back atmosphere... courses are just so darn tight...
