So...you can import a 1989 R32 in the year 2014.

It's 15 years in canada(iirc) and I didn't say register it here I said drive it here. Leave it registered in canada.

From a recent person in canada who purchased a skyline.
"In Canada, vehicles over 15 years old are exempt from the RIV program. The RIV program prohibits Skyline importation. Guess which car just recently became 15 years old? Hence, I believe, the sudden influx."

Also look into http://evolutionimports.com/ Someone I know in port orange got a r33. There is a loophole, do more research for your answer.

Yes, Canada is 15 years, and America is 25 years. Your point? By law, if you live in Florida for more than 6 months, you MUST register your car in Florida. Like I said...FALSE PRETENSES. Didn't say impossible, just said, not legal.

Evolution Imports? Them again??? They dismantle the car in the carribean, ship it to the USA and sell the parts to a customer. They then put you in touch with somebody who 're-assembles' the car for you . They then guide you to a person at a title company who does the title work for you. Notice, they only sell you parts, so they are off the hook...they leave you holding the bag.

Did I cover my bases?

I think so. But you could probably slip through them proving you lived somewhere for more then 6months continuous if they try to get you on having a non registered vehicle in the states. Plus wouldn't hurt to have family or friends in canada if they would be willing to do it through their name and you drive/pay for it.

I know the person who got one through EI, they re-assembled it for them and got it registered through like alaska or some stuff. As far as I know it's a legal loop hole but not sure.

Moral of the story? It's not worth all the trouble just to own a skyline.

When you question 'Celm' <--EI rep, he will tell you it's titled, and registered, and it's legal. Well, Yes, the paperwork is absolutely 100% legal, it a title and a registration that is state issued. That doesn't mean it's federally legal. Ask them if it's federalized...ask them to provide a letter from the NHSTA and EPA, ask them to prove it to you in writing....they can't. Like you said...not worth it for a car, not even a Skyline

Found this info on FA. DAMN FMVSS!!!!!

"You may be correct that MOTOREX only crash tested the R33, however they filed a petition for the 1990-1999 Nissan Skyline and got it approved as noted blow (from NHTSA elgibility list):

Nissan GTS, GTR (RHD) 1990-1999 17 NHTSA-1999 5507

Wether or not the cars are the same, (Chasis is probably very similar), the NHTSA bought off on the petition and 1990-1999 Skylines are elgible for importation if made to meet all FMVSS (ahhh... the hard part)"

very nice post man, very informative and very depressing. When exactly did it become " illegal" to import the skyline?

For the best, let the Japaneese play with them. Last thing we need is more skylines imported, riced, then trown into be nothing more than a show car.
