Corolla xrs --
170hp,
great gas mileage,
6 Spd tranny
low depreciation,
more reliable than 99% of the others cars.
18,000.00 Price tag

It does require 91 octane

Cooper S is also a great choice.

Must:
* be $20,000 or less
* be fairly new (no older than '99 or so - financing)
* have under 50-60k miles
* have adequate power (160hp+)
* have a manual transmission
* have at least some cargo room
* get at least 20mpg city
* be reliable

Prefer:
* $15,000 or less
* run on 87 octane
* get at least 25mpg
* have aftermarket support
* luxury (leather, power seats, sunroof, etc)

I'm open to everything from an Audi TT to a Mustang GT convertible to a Saab 9-3......
hey, a sebring would fit those requirements. my car has 200 horsepower gets 27 city / 32 highway, runs on 87 octane, had 19,000 miles on it and cost $16k. leather seats, power everything, and it's a convertible. but i don't think it would be easy to find one with a stickshift.

If you want to get something thats fast from the factory and also has great aftermarket support go with anything ls1. Once you start doing mods to pretty much any car your going to need good gas so finding something that runs on 87 probably isn't going to last long if you want to mod it
