the part #'s for the rods are the same for the 99/00 cars as the mazdaspeed. Yes they are beefed up from the 01-05 rods though. Pistons are also the same as the 99/00.

 

so if im understanding what you just wrote correctly, then why would mazda weaken the rods after 99/00? and if the pistons are the same as the 99/00 pistons then those year miatas must be ready to accept boost. or their website is total bs. they "said" the pistons have been changed to drop compression. (im guessing they just flattened the tops.)

 

well in 01 the compression went up to 10:1 (maybe 10.5:1) and the rod change was probably to save money or weight. Yes the 99/00 is a good year to boost, in fact its what I have and I have boosted it. Their website isnt BS since they did drop the compression and went back to the older style rods, thats how they can get away with saying that.

if you're gonna get one, all you need is an intake, exhaust, downpipe, bigger front mount, and a boost controller. 220 whp
