Question Will this be the death of SUV's?

IMHO I sure as hell hope so. Did a quick think here, you got an H2 or similar rediculous poseur vehicle with the 32 gallon tank. Bout 100 bucks to fill, you get 10 MPG average. OUCH 320 miles for 100 bucks. I kinda hope all this gas hoopla changes some idiotic attitudes with SUV's and rediculous trucks. This is just a rant on my part, but do you think this will reshape some thinking. Or will it take gas to reach 5.00 a gallon before some thought? I allready like the less traffic in the mornings, have noticed it allready.

No uber flaming please, just post thoughts.

Gary

No doubt this will have an effect on the number of big suv's on the road. At least some good can come from all of this but I think it will be temporary gas prices will either go back down (yes it is possible) or they will start making more if not all cars and trucks hybrid with in a few years including suv's. There are already a few small hybrid suv's and I just saw that Lexus is going to produce a hybrid GS which seems impressive. Hybrids are starting to become more mainstream and more than just economy cars.

It won't be the death of the SUV. I just means that they are going to have to come up with some more innovations when it comes to cars to make them more fuel efficient. That could mean a number of things though. Just as what was brought up in another thread about when we had gas shortages years ago, we lost muscle cars for a little while, we finally bounced back and they are better than ever. This just forces companies to "go for the gold," when it comes to the next best thing.

Fuck no. Being a redneck is the new fad now...you arent cool unless if you have s pickup raised 3 feet in the air with tires 4x bigger than a rapper's rims meant for off road grip yet will never touch anything but pavement. You MUST have a rebel flag tint on the back window, no less than 2-3 more elsewhere on the vehicle, and a windsheild banner that says something about your redneckness or flat out stupidity.

But most importantly, upon completion, you MUST ABSOLUTELY MUST bitch and moan about gas prices after all of that

What do these two flags have in common?

They both lost 100% of their respective region's wars.

Not a hater if you actually use it for more than hauling your own ass. Hey I have a pick 'em up truck too. But that is driven may be 200 miles a year. Just for moving shit and when it floods up around these here parts. I am on the boat with others that are tired of hearing people that drive these monstrosities bitching about their cost of ownerships now.

SUV's actually have a purpose. just most people buy them for status symbols.

yea..SUV's do actually work..but most of the time they are driven by crazy people who think they own the road...
SUV's wont disappear..their numbers will just go down alot..
oh yeah..the less tahoe-driving-soccer-moms [who never signal and cut me off all the time!] there are on the road..the safer it is for all of us
