Alfa Romeo introduced cam phasing on the exhaust side of their four cylinder production engines in the cars they imported into the U.S.A. in 1972.
Honda was first to really market it in a production vehicle, even though it had already existed. (NSX, late 80's-early 90's).
I'm in the process of finding the receipt that show hardcore evidence that Honda purchased Nissan's design of their variable valve timing back in the 80's.
Honda just patented their refinement of the variable valvetiming and called it v-tech.
I'm just saying that Nissan is the 1st japanese automaker to use variable valve timing (vvt) on their vehicles, not honda.
The big props goes to General Motors for inventing VVT though.
