how does AWD allow you to go through deeper water? I can understand having better traction but I dont get how insterstate driving is differant (your not accelerating, I know i still drive the same speeds when its wet. and wouldnt hydroplaning be from the tires, not having more driving wheels?) Not trying to be a smart ass, there real questions.

Another thing I love about the car overall is the handling. I can go hard into a corner, pushing to the outside, let off the gas a tiny bit and she tightens up and hugs the road....so friggen easy to drive fast!
Yeah....just like any other car. Dropping throttle will cause the front end to gain grip, and the car will turn in a bit tighter.

AWD handles like FWD until you start putting fancy diffs in the car.

The deeper water part was more an issue of the car not having some bullshit CAI installed on it so I was all smiles. As for hydroplaning, yeah, it has to due with tires, but then so does traction. All I know is hitting a puddle in the STi doesn't cause a sudden sideward shift in motion as it does in many of the other cars I've driven (FWD & RWD). The reason? Part if it might be the weight, part if it might be the tire's grooving, but I'd wager that the majority of it has to do with having four wheels, each putting down power through an dynamically controled center diff. If this AWD has any disadvantage, it's that I'm becomming more complacent in adverse conditions.

I was surprised my "cheapo" Kuhmo Supras do so well in the rain. I still havent found their limits in the wet yet.

Last year getting off Kennedy onto the interstate I hit a puddle with the Buick going no less than 40mph. In a lighter car, it would have yanked the car hard to the side, I probably would have wiped out completely.

The car slowed, felt like I was driving through molasses...but didn't budge sideways a bit.

In the Datsun, I've gone onto wet roads, making certain turns...they slide around so much if I don't let off the gas and just coast. The other night I was out, roads wet...not getting on it much, and the back end comes out, let off, correct it, gas again, back end again, correct again...makes me nervous. Seems stable enough in a straight line though.
