how much does it cost to rebuilt a shortblock?
im thinking about buyin a spare stock h.o 5.0 motor for my 90gt. Mine burns only and has an oilpan gasket leak, and i think the rings are shot. 120k . I was thinkin of buyin another 90 shortblock for 125 and slappin some new rings, bearings, seals, pump, and possibly rehoning it or punchin it over .030. Ive never done any work on a bottom end, and i think it would be a nice summer project while im out of school+ ill learn alot and have a oilburning//leaking free motor. Just wondering the price on the machine work to the block and how much a nice set of rings and bearing go for?
thanks

Boring and honing works out to about $30 a hole, plus a small additional fee if the block needs to be cleaned and/or shotpeened.
If you really want to do it right your crank will also need to be inspected and polished assuming it doesn't need to be ground. Resize your rods too since they will probably need it.
If you have 120K miles and oil consumption you are probably also need a valve job.
This stuff adds up quick, but when you are done your motor will be better than new.
