cold air intake..hydrolock...bypass valve
ok now i know am gonna get flamed but am asking a question for one of my friends. now is there true way to avoid hydro-lock when you have a cold air intake. i hear bypass valves don't work. and no i don't want to hear "just don't get a cold air intake" thank you. if there is any DECENT answers they are appreciated. thx

if your intake is down by the bottom of the bumper cover, then you can suck up water.
keep it high and it minimizes it.
i know when i was at BMW, we also had MINI. the regular coopers had a hell of a time in the hard core rains we had last year from hydrolocking. we did 12 motors last summer. and that was with a stock intake. it has since been fixed, but it all depends on how water would have to run to get into your motor.
i guess water could always get in there somehow, but there are ways to minimize those chances.
and i have no idea what kind of by pass valve you are talking about

my CAI is in the front fender right infront of the tire....when you approach large amounts of water, avoid them if you can, or put the clutch in if you absolutely have to go in it....maybe even turn the car off and push the bitch thru if you have to...theres always a way to avoid the water

lol that happened to a friend of mine, he was like"man we have to get out a push the car. i was like why. he was like because of his cai. i was fucking pissed pushin a civic hatch down the street almost knee deep in water just to avoid hydrolock. i thought bypass valve works. and also i heard of installing breather filters directly to the throttle body on some model cars where available

As long as you avoid huge puddles that would cover your tire its not likely your going to be sucking up any water. Ive been fine so far with my AEM CAI. Although I wont have to worry much more once I get my turbo kit pieced together. People that think a little bit while driving shouldnt have a problem with a CAI.
tru i understand. i told my friend that a little light rain wouldn't make a difference, but then he was like "but water under the car"
and other stuff so i just figured i'd get some advice from people that have cai's. thx for the info tho
