Yes, but how many junkyards have 2000 impala's there? That car must be beat to shit if it already thru a rod...replace the whole motor if the block isnt already shot.

More than you'd think. I'm sure the motor is used in more applications than just an Impala and any salvage operation worth a shit will search and find one. Think totalled low mileage cars

its a standard GM 3.4 or 3.8L v6. nothing special...its in many GM cars for the past 10+ years

Yes, i know, the 3.8 in those are older than the dinosaurs. But i was refering to the whole car in general, not just a motor. I dont think i have ever seen one in a salvage yard before, but plenty of the 3.8's.

Most of the salvage yards you can actually go in like copher's stick to older cars they can get for next to nothing. An actual salvage operation that pulls and sells used motors, tranny's, etc. will buy newer wrecked cars from salvage auctions. Usually those places do not let you just go in and pull your own parts as there are too many valuable parts on the newer cars that someone could mess up. Greenleaf over in Tampa is the first place that comes to mind, any time I've needed anything for a newer car, they either had it right there or found it the same day.
