Ive heard that 1) One of the two main production plants burned down so the supply has decreased, and 2) It is being phased out because it damages the environment. I kind of believe 1...

Phased out? Cool, then everyone won't complain at me not having A/C, since I guess they're being phased out as well.

Not really. What has happend is China has built the worlds largest dam. and they are using 134a to cool the concrete. They have purchased 4 of the worlds largest 134a producing plants to fit the bill for all of that freon! So now the few plants left, are supplying the rest of the world, hence prices are starting to skyrocket. Our shop has about 25drums of 134a in case any of you need some a/c work

R12 and R134a replacements.

I've used Autofrost and it works great. Seems to be cooler then R12 in my older cars.

So is the Autofrost something that can mix with R-12, or is it a flush and fill type thing?

I MIGHT (if I don't f*** up the block) have the Buick's A/C system checked, but it'd be on the R-12 still. Not sure about the Datsun which it uses.
Both have issues with not blowing out the vent at all, just to the floor, so that's something else I need to mess up...er...I mean fix.

quote from their site.
"Autofrost
High Performance R-12 Replacement.

Autofrost is completely compatible with all existing system components. Simply pull out the existing refrigerant and charge in Autofrost. Autofrost is sold in 25 lb. cylinders and cases of 12, 9.6 oz. cans. By far the best replacement on the market today. "

BUT I've just dumped some into a system that had R12 in it and I haven't had any problems.
